Some of us are old enough to remember “I Dream of Jeannie” where the genie from the bottle simply crossed her arms with a blink and a nod to make things change immediately.
Literally in the blink of an eye.
Your local print shop cannot do that. Handling paper does take time. If you want ten copies of a single page, it can be done relatively quickly – ten minutes or so. If you want a thousand copies of that same page it takes more time – a couple of hours. That’s if it’s being done on a laser printer with toner.
If it is being done on an ink printer, you need to add drying time. Depending on current humidity, that can be a full day. When you want printing on both sides, one side needs to dry before you can print on the other.
Other operations also take time. Perforating, for instance requires that each sheet be handled once again – one by one. When something is padded, the glue for padding sometimes requires as much as twenty-four hours to be stable.
All of this is after the design has been finalized. If your print shop is designing your printed piece, please allow several days for designing, proofing, changing, redesigning, and proofing again.
We find that even when working with a single client, finalizing a design takes time. When the client is a committee, it takes more time. Allow at least a week or ten days.
Please give your print shop time to do a good job for you.
