Envelope Stock

Often people come into our business with a request for card stock on which to hand craft a sign or banner – like a happy birthday or welcome home decoration.

We’ve already talked about some of the options for flat paper stock – colors and weights can vary widely.

But suppose you want envelopes. Your local print shop probably carries a variety of those, also.

You can purchase envelopes either blank or printed.  Most of our requests are for standard envelope sizes.  The #10 envelope is the size you put a folded letter in. It is 9.5 inches long and 4.25 inches tall with the flap on the long side.

But there are a variety of greeting card sized envelopes as well. They can accommodate color-card-envelopeseverything from a small folded card that is 4.25 x 5.5 when folded to an 8.5 x 5.5 dimension. These are usually available in white or soft white (pale cream) as well as other colors.

Then there are the larger envelopes. These are defined as “catalogue” or “booklet” – the difference being the location of the flap.

When the flap is on the end, it is labeled as a catalogue envelope.  They are available with gummed flap, self-seal flap, or even clasp closure.

Clasp closures can be very hard on printing equipment, so your printer will likely suggest that you use labels rather than direct imprint on them.

Booklet envelopes open on the long edge for inserting a booklet (spine first) easily.

These envelopes come in sizes from 6 x 9 inches to 12 x 15 for mailing via USPS.

If you have special needs, please consult your local print shop. They are there to serve you. DuMond Printing is available from 8 to 5, five days a week, and by appointment on Saturdays.
